The a couple of days after Roslyn and Lila met everyone, it was the day Roslyn was supposed to bring Lila to her meeting. As she got ready to leave her work place she glanced down at her phone. It was about an hour before her meeting and that would be the perfect time to call Lila and tell her about the meeting and have her go, but because Roslyn was herself she didn't call Lila. She headed toward her bike looking down at her phone, walking in the parking lot, and ran into someone and both of them fell to the ground.
"I'm so sorry. Are you," before she could ask if the person was alright it was the new Summer guy. She stared for a minute and fully took in how he looked. She smiled, "okay?" He just kind of looked at her and tried to remember where he knew her from. Then it clicked she was to be one of the season like him.
"Yeah I'm good. Are you okay?" He said picking himself up and sticking his hand out to help her up. She didn't take his hand and let herself up.
"Yes," she moved a little bit of her hair behind her right ear, "I'm good." They stood there awkwardly for a little bit. Roslyn cleared her throat. "So why are you at Photo's Uploaded?" Roslyn wanted to say anything to clear the silence.
"I am picking up some pictures they said they would develope for me. I know one of the guys who work here and he said he would get them done for me instead of having me pay a lot of money to get it done at a local drug store."
"Oh really? Who? I work here, so it's likely I know him." Roslyn asked wanting to waste time till her meeting.
"Markus." He said then shifted his weight. "I'm sorry I don't remember your name." Roslyn put on a smile and stuck her hand out.
"Roslyn. Pete right?"
"Peter. Not Pete. Don't call me Pete." He said then looked down at his watch.
"Oh I'm sorry. Am I keeping you from something? I'll go." Before he could say anything to respond her question, "I need to be going anyway. Have a meeting I need to get to." She rolled her eyes. "See you soon!" She yelled as she ran to her bike. Peter stood there watching Roslyn ride away. He shook his head and walked toward Photo's Uploaded.
He walked in and there was a bell that rang as he stepped through the door. Markus was behind the counter on the phone with what Peter assumed was a costumer. Markus acknowledge that Peter was there by waving to him and put up his index finger to say one minute. Peter smiled and looked at the pictures hanging on the wall. Peter came to one that stood out from the rest. It was a picture of a wall, covered in graffitty, with a girl, who's back was to the camera, staring at it with a paintbrush in her hand. Markus came over to Peter and put his hand on Peter's back.
"What's going on man?" Markus said pushing and pulling on his shoulder a little.
"Just coming to pick up the pictures. Who took this picture?" Peter pointed to the picture of the graffity wall.
"Oh, Rose did. She is very talented. The girl in the picture is her roomamte Lilli, I think...I don't really remember her name. That woman never liked me. She doesn't like men, espically when they are near Rose. I don't know why though. She's a shrew." Markus started to walk behind the counter to pick up the photo's.
"Rose? I know a girl who works here. Her name is Roslyn, you know her?"
"Yeah, that's Rose. She took all those photo's over there." He gestered over to the wall that Peter was staring at. "The girl in some of the photos is Linda. Or was it Lila? Anyway, the art work in the picture's belong to Roslyn's roomate. Two artist living under one roof, spells trouble to me, but they seem to do fine. Here are your pictures." He held them out for Peter, but he was to busy staring at the picture with the graffity wall. He had this urge to want to learn more about the girl standing in this picture.
"Lila." Peter finally said with a half smile.
"Yeah," Markus say's slowly. He looks over at Peter and then starts to laugh. "Man just take your pictures." They both laughed as Markus pushed the photo's in Peter's hands.
Roslyn finally made it to her meeting. She was a bit early so she walked around the building a few times. The fourth time she was walking around she heard some noise from a woman trying to get out of her car. She walked around the car to see Lila locking the car. Roslyn didn't know what to do or say so she just stared at her friend and didn't move. Lila shut the door and turned to see Roslyn standing there.
"So, you weren't going to tell me to come tonight?" Lila asked putting her right hand on her hip.
"How...How did...what are you doing here?" Roslyn finally spoke, and that wasn't what Lila was looking for.
"Father what's his name, called me and told me about tonight because he thought you wouldn't tell me. And man was he right. Why weren't you going to tell me?" Lila moved closer to Roslyn.
"I just...I figured...I don't know, can we just go inside please?" Roslyn slowly started to walk toward the front door.
"I almost picked up your bike and moved it because you were taking up a perfectly good parking spot."
"Shut up," Roslyn said while laughing and Lila joined in after playfully hitting Roslyn's shoulder.
Once the meeting was over Lila stuck to Roslyn like glue. Father Time didn't seem to be there, which didn't suprise Lila but suprised Roslyn. It didn't suprise Lila because he wasn't been at the classes lately. They stood for a few minutes, Lila took four cookies and quickly walked over to Roslyn and handed her two cookies. Roslyn stared at the chocolate chip cookies in her hand and then looked over at her roomate who was almost done with the first cookie. Lila stopped chewing and looked back at Roslyn who hadn't even brough one of the cookies close to her lips.
"Eat, so that way I don't feel..."
"Lila you say the word fat and I will slap you." Roslyn said with a angry voice. She didn't like thinking anyone she knew was fat. Espcially when they were perfectly fine the way they were. Lila just looked at Roslyn then took a big bite out of the second cookie. Roslyn was also mad at the fact that she kept thinking about the one day her ex came to her apartment and all hell broke lose.
"Eat! You are to thin!" Lila poked Roslyn's left side of her stomache which made Roslyn laugh. They both started to laugh.
"That's the first time she has smiled here." A man's voice said. Lila looked up and saw Father Time walking their way.
"Quickly, if we hurry now it will be a fun chase." Roslyn said, Lila just looked confused. "Oh forget it, it's too late now." Roslyn leaned agenst the wall and looked at Father Time.
"Nice to see you again ladies. I heard you guys got to meet the past seasons and the new boys." Father Time said, although he just kept his eyes on Roslyn. He looked at Lila. "I also heard you had a problem with meeting the new boys."
"Look, I don't know who the heck these boys are and they are in my house for a long period of time. I haven't spent time with them to know who and what kind of people they are. And as long as I keep it that way, they wont be in my house." Lila said and then finished off the cookie. Roslyn kept her eyes down on the ground.
"Oh, I see. Roslyn you feel the same way?" He asked trying to look into her eyes, but she made it a point not to let him see her eyes.
"Lila says no boys, I say no boys." Roslyn was trying to fight away tears. "I'm heading out," Roslyn say's to Lila as she walks past her handing her cookies to Father Time. Lila steps forward to stop Roslyn from leaving when she says, "Not this time Lila. I need the air." On that note she leaves the building.
"First boys in my house, and then Roslyn leaves. Anything else up your sleeves you want to tell me about?" Lila says getting upset. Father Time stares at her and then smiles.
"How is painting going for you? I know classes are over this week and I haven't been in the classroom. Using your emotions like I taught you?" He smiles at Lila then takes a bite from the cookie. She just stares at him, it was like he knew she used her emotions in her paintings lately. It was almost like he knew about the other night.
Roslyn slames the last door to the building shut and closes her eyes. This night couldn't get any worse, she thought. As she leans against the door she notices Harlean standing on the seat of Roslyn's bike. A smile comes across her face as she stares at the Hawk that has made it's way into the interest of Roslyn's heart. She slowly walks toward her bike and keeps a smile on her face.
"You don't judge me do you?" She asks as she slowly reachs her bike. The hawk just kept one of it's eyes on her. "No, you wouldn't judge me. Even if you could, I believe you wouldn't." She sticks her arm out and Harlean flaps her way to Roslyn's forearm. "What do you say we leave this place and go around the blocks a few times before heading home?" The hawk moved it's head up and down kind of in a wave motion. For a moment Roslyn considered the thought that maybe just maybe the animal understood her. But that would be to insane. She puts on her helmet and starts up her engine. The feel of speed came into her and she took off. Her Hawk flying up above her along the way. Roslyn didn't know where she was going, but she wanted to go and not look back for a while; and, Roslyn has all the energy she could think about was riding around for hours and hours. Every time there was a turn in the side walk, she would see Harlean, the hawk, sitting ontop of a stop sign or a pole.
Roslyn rode for a while and finally stopped at this 24 hour movie store. She put her bike in park and had her hawk wait on her bike for her. She walks into the store and see's one guy working there, he looks fimilur but Roslyn doesn't think much of it. She nods her head at him and then walks over to the romance section. She glances across the room and notices three other people in the room. Two of the three were a couple the third was a lonely guy who had his back turned to Roslyn. She starts in the "A" section of the romance movies. She wanted something that would make her have an excuse for crying. When Roslyn was in middle school she had this one boyfriend who would tell her not to ever cry in front of him. He would hurt her feelings so much and when she would cry, he would get upset and yell at her to stop crying. One time he asked nicely for her to stop crying, but that was the only time. Every since then, if she doesn't have a good reason to cry, she would watch something sad, read something sad, or write something sad just so she would have an excuse. She picked up "A Walk To Remember" and started to read what it was about on the back of the movie box.
"Why does that not seem like your type of movie?" A male voice came from the other side of the movie rack. Roslyn looks up and it was the other seasons guy. She smiled and looked down at the movie.
"What? Don't I look like the type of girl who would watch romance movies?" She asked with a smile and held the movie close to her face so he could see the front of the box. He looked down and picked up a movie.
"Now this seems like your type of movie," he holds up the box close to his face just like she did with the movie A Walk To Remember.
"Oh so I look like the type of girl, who late at night, wants to watch Dare Devil? Really?" She gave him this look like he couldn't be serious.
"Oh yeah, you look like the really action type girl. I bet James Bond was your favorite thing to watch growing up." He said while following her from the other side of the movie rack. She smiled and looked at him then went back to looking at the movies. Something about him spelled trouble, but not in a bad way. It was in a type of way that made her feel safe and happy inside. "I'm right, aren't I?" She doesn't respond, she just smiles. She reaches the end of the row and he stands there staring at her. He sticks out his hand. "Jarek. Nice to meet you."
"Roslyn." She quickly shakes his hand then lets go and looks around to see if Lila could be hiding somewhere watching her.
"Looking for someone?" He askes.
"Yeah," she let out a laugh. "You could say that. More so I'm looking for someone who is not there." He laughed like he knew who she was talking about. He went on looking for another movie, he already had one in his hand. Roslyn saw it and pointed to it. "Good movie?"
"Oh," he looks down at the movie, "I don't know. Never watched it before. A friend told me about it." Roslyn looked suprised.
"A lady friend?" She says as she walks up the second row of Romance movies. He gives out a laugh.
"Well my male friends don't tell me about any good romance movies, at least none have in all the time of me knowing them." He moved the movie around while he was speaking to her. It seemed like he couldn't talk to her without moving his hands around.
"So tell me, how often do you travel in the middle of the night for a good romance movie?" Rolsyn asked as she picks up a chick flick she had seen once or twice before and placed it in her right hand along with A Walk To Remember. Jarek's phone started to ring. The song Gone by Switchfoot came on as his ringtone. "You're going going gone. Like yesterday is gone." Roslyn started to sing as she danced around in a circle. Jarek just laughed at her than answered his phone. She made a sad face then went back to looking for a movie.
"Hey Peter." He says as he slowly walks away from Roslyn then walks back. "I'm just at the video store right now. I'm picking out something to watch." He looks over at Roslyn who is rocking back and forth on her feet reading the back of a movie box, he starts to laugh at her. "No man, I'll be coming home soon. Just picking up one more video then on my way." He waits a few minutes listening to Peter on the other end. "See you soon." He closes his phone and turns around to see the new relaeses. Roslyn stands there watching Jarek walk away from her. She rolls her eyes.
"Typical guy." She says aloud then hunchs over hoping he didn't hear what she said. It appeard as if he didn't. That made her happy. She let out a deep sigh, loud enough for him to hear.
"Something troubling you," He looks at Roslyn and smiles, "Roslyn?" She smiles at him.
"Nothing that time won't heal. That is time and a good movie." She replies and picks up one last movie.
Once they both got finished getting movies they walked out of the store and stood in front for a few minutes chitchatting. Roslyn looked down at her watch. It was one thirty in the morning. Lila would be having a cow, if she didn't already have one, Roslyn thought. She looked over at her bike and the hawk was still standing on her bike. There was one other car in the parking lot, it belong to Jarek. It wasn't anything flashy but it was a nice looking car. Inside she could see something moving around but she wasn't to sure what it was though. Roslyn looks at Jarek and smiles. He had light skin, dark hair and brown eyes. He wore a button up white shirt, blue jeans, and brown shoes. Not exactly stylish but it worked for him. He looked down at his cell phone and noticed the time. He put his hands over his eyes.
"Something wrong?" Roslyn asked as she looked around making sure no one else was around them. She always looked around to notice her surroundings, life taught her to be careful and not careless.
"Yeah...and no at the same time. I need to be heading off." He turned to walk towards his car but he just stood there instead of moving. He turned back around with his eyes closed. He was almost facing Roslyn, but he was a little off. "Um..." He cleared his throat. "Can I have your number? This isn't me asking you out or anything, I just never really had a fun time talking to someone like you before. I would hate to wait for another meeting where I'm afraid to talk to you because of your roommate." Roslyn laughed at what he was saying about her roommate. He opened his eyes once he heard her laughing. He stared at her painted jeans and her "angel's and paint" shirt.
"Yeah sure." She took his hand and wrote down his number with the pen she always kept in her pocket. She smiled as she finished writing the last four numbers. "You can text me any time and call me whenever. I should get going. It was fun." She stuck out her hand. He looked down at it and smiled.
"It was fun." He took her hand and kissed it. Roslyn quickly took her hand back. He looked confused. "Is something wrong?" Roslyn started to rubbed where he kissed her hand.
"I wasn't expecting you to do that. Sorry, it startled me." They stood there for a minute in silence. "How about we try this?" She gave him a side hug. He just stood there with his arms up a little to let her hug him.
"Well, maybe one day we will get this goodbye thing down." He smiled and waved goodbye as he walked toward his car. She waved back.
"Yeah, maybe one day. See you later." She said as she got back on her bike and headed out of the parking lot.
